Waiting For The Robert E. Lee

Ett McAtee

Sides Face, Grand Square
Way down on the levee in ole’ Alabamee
There's Daddy and Mammy and don’t forget Sammy! See ‘em
down there with their blankets and chairs!
Allemande Left that Corner, you Weave that ol’ Ring!
Bring all your friends to sing and dance along
And maybe promenade, the night is young!
It's simply great, mate, waitin’ on the levee,
Waitin’ for the Robert E. Lee!

Watch them all shuffle right along
You can join that crowd to sing a song!
So go on down to the levee, I said “come on down!”
...
Bring all your friends, we’ll dance right along
And maybe promenade until the night is gone
It's simply great, mate, waitin’ on the levee
Waitin’ for the Robert E. Lee!

The whistles are blowing, the lights are a’glowing….
LOOK!  the steamboat is comin’ right in!
...
The steamboat is dockin’ and the music is rockin’!
It’s truly harmonious, just glorious!!
We’ve been hummin’ and swayin’ all day!
Because the GOOD SHIP ROBERT E. LEE
Will carry our cotton away!

Heads (Sides) Square Thru, shuffle on down to your corner
Make a Right-Hand Star … when the sun goes down,
Heads (Sides) Star Left to that corner girl you know
Slide Thru --- Touch One Quarter, Girls Run
Pass Thru, U-Turn Back
Swing and Promenade
‘cuz the music is playin’ our song!
It's simply great, mate, waitin’ on the levee
Waitin’ for the Robert E. Lee!
